Embroidered Tops

Lucky Brand Jeans has the sweetest embroidered tops on sale right now.  The black sleeveless top has such a great Mexican feel to it--I love all the bright colors against the black.  And the pink and white top is so romantic and pretty, but casual at the same time.  I like the keyhole top and the smocking detail around all the openings.  And can you believe these are each $29.95, off from $78?  Sweet!

BR Wrap Dress

I absolutely love this cute wrap dress from Banana Republic! Love the color, it's so fun. It's also a great length, and I really like the little cap sleeves. It's on sale right now for $109.99 from $150. Hurry, this one is going fast!

I'm back!

Sorry readers, I have been away on vacation but am back now and ready to blog about fashion once again!

While on vacation with a group of friends, my girlfriends and I started talking about fashion's golden era: the 1980's. We were recalling fondly the days of "tight-rolling" our jeans--the process of taking our jeans (which were already probably somewhat tapered), folding the hem over and rolling them up to our lower calves, making the jeans both too short and as narrow as possible at the bottom. It was possibly the most unflattering look imaginable. Of course, this was usually coupled with two pairs of slouch socks in neon colors on each foot, and a different colored converse sneaker on each foot.

As a joke, one of my girlfriends tight rolled her jeans as we walked to the nearby train station. She got quite a few looks, including one from a construction worker who I'm pretty sure was pitying her apparent lack of fashion sense. I have a picture, but out of respect for our friendship, will not post it.

On the flight home, I was paging through the July issue of Vogue when I came across a picture of a model with tight-rolled jeans. I kid you not. Now she was wearing heels instead of slouch socks and converse, but the effect was no less unflattering and disturbing. In fact, I think going all out old school with the look would have been better, in an ironic-commentary-on-the-80's sort of way, instead of a sad attempt to resurrect a trend that should remain buried for all time.

Personally, I will fight the tight-rolling of jeans until my last breath. You have my word on that.

Turquoise Bag

I saw this great turqouise bag from Nine West on sale at Macy's for $59.25, off from $79. Yes, it's PVC, not leather, but...who cares? It's so cool! It comes in some other fun colors too, like fuschia and yellow.

Dooney & Bourke Wallet

Dooney and Bourke has some really cute patent leather accessories in really cute colors. Case in point: this turquoise patent leather wallet for $180.00, which also comes in yellow, fushcia, dark green and cobalt blue, among others. I love patent leather, it always looks so put together, and the fun colors really set this one apart. I like colorful wallets-you can find them easily in the bottom of your bag, and since they're hidden away, they don't have to match what you're wearing. Also check out their cosmetic bag and wristlets in the same line.

Tiered Cami

Check out this pretty chiffon tiered camisole from Old Navy for $24.50! I love the volume, so dramatic. This would be really cute under a plain blazer for work, or with jeans and heels for night.

Perfect Summer Dress

I'm totally obsessed with this adorable dress for $195.00 from Calypso Christiane Celle. If you haven't checked out their store at the Domain, you must. This dress (the Pazzi dress) is 100% dupioni silk, and comes in a ton of bright, summery colors. I love the quilted collar and hem. And it has pockets (don't you love dresses with pockets??). I love that it's made of such a luxurious material and is so expensive looking, but that it's a little bit rumpled at the same time. I'd wear this with silver flip flops. It's perfect because there are a million different places you could wear this, and you can dress it up or down accordingly. It's officially on my wish list!

Michelle Obama's Style

I saw this article in the New York Times this weekend about Michelle Obama's style, and thought it was an interesting bookend to my earlier post about the candidates' fashion choices. The article compares her style to Jacqueline Kennedy and...Barbara Bush? I'm not sure about BB, but I definitely see the Kennedy comparison. I love her outfit above--note her outstanding use of accessories. Personally, I love her sense of style, and it's nice to see a potential first lady dress a little more fashionably.

Cute Jacket

I really like this cute jacket from Ann Taylor Loft, on sale right now for $49.99 from $89.99. It has some really cool details: the front pockets, the button detailing, and the button up sleeves. But my favorite thing about it is the color--this color is so flattering on everyone! This would be so cute with jeans and a tank for work this summer. And you can't beat the price--$50 for a jacket is a steal!

Best T-Shirts Ever

I love tshirts--who doesn't?? But I demand tees that are super soft, in a fashionable cut. And my favorite tshirts ever are by C&C California. They made the softest, most stylish tees, and best of all, they keep their shape, the colors don't fade, and the shirts never shrink. They are sooo comfy and cute, love them! Bloomingdales has some really cute ones on sale right now, like the Jersey "Tara" top (left), on sale for $51.80 from $74.00, and the Variegated "Ava" tank, on sale for $40.60 from $58.00. Snap these up--I swear you will wear them all the time.

The Fashion of Sex And The City: The Movie

I am embarassed to admit that I have not yet seen the new Sex and the City Movie, but I'm dying to go, especially to check out the fashion, of course! In the meantime, I'm having to read about it in this New York Times article , which is not totally complementary of the styling choices made in the movie. They make the point that Carrie could never afford all these clothes in real life, and that the movie is rife with materialism. I agree, but...it's fun!

Random Posting: Encounter With A Bachelor

Readers, forgive this post, which blatantly has nothing to do with shopping (although, one of my friends pointed out that I could try and infuse a husband-shopping angle somewhere?). I went to a wedding Saturday night, and who should be there as a guest but Brian W., current star of The Bachelorette (above, center)! My friend Jenny (above, left) and I are huge fans of the show, and have been watching every season of both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette since the first season. We love the psychos who manage to squeak through the selection process, we love the teary confessionals from the people who get kicked off, and we love counting how many times the contestants say they "feel a real connection" with the Bachelor or Bachelorette. It is an awesome show, and if you are not watching it, you should be. Anyway, when we found out Brian W. was at the wedding reception, we were pretty much giddy with excitement. We are both married, by the way, so our obsession was not romantic in nature. We were just really excited to get to see someone from the show in person, and decided we had to get a picture with him. We were a little embarrassed to ask him, but after relentless teasing from our other friends, we approached him. He was SO nice and obliging, and not only took a picture with us (see above), but talked to us a little bit about the selection process and inner workings of the show. I'm definitely rooting for him to be picked by Deanna (the current Bachelorette). Okay, I promise the next post will be about shopping!!
